CO2 will be stored deep under the seabed off the west coast of Norway. Equinor and its partners Shell and Total are responsible for developing the storage facility.

CO2 will be transported by ship to the municipality of Øygarden, where an intermediate storage facility will be built. CO2 will then be piped into the storage facility close to the Troll field in the North Sea.

On 30 June 2017, Gassnova awarded the contract for concept and FEED studies of the CO2 storage project to Statoil (now Equinor). It has since entered into partnership with Shell and Total for the development of the storage facility.

The concept study for the storage facility is to be completed in late 2018.

The partnership has taken over responsibility for the transport part of the project. Gassco delivered a feasibility study for CO2 transport by ship in the autumn of 2017.
