Gassnova is very pleased that the industry has exhibited such great interest, and that five areas on the Norwegian continental shelf have been nominated as interesting sites with potential reservoirs for permanent storage of CO2. The nomination by the companies will form part of the basis for evaluations linked to a potential announcement of areas for research and exploration for subsea reservoirs suitable for permanent storage of CO2 from Mongstad.
Together with the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy will consider the nominated areas and other initiatives from the industry. The role that Gassnova will play in the future will be evaluated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy after the nomination process is complete, and will also depend on factors such as the industry’s interest in participating in this project.
