The main topic Dr. Schöffel took part in, both from the podium and in a panel debate, was how to increase global cooperation between the public and private sectors with the aim of accelerating realisation and deployment of CCS. A number of companies from the western hemisphere presented the status of CCS work in their respective countries.

Schöffel presented the Norwegian business model, in which the State has taken on an active role in stimulating research, development, demonstration and realisation of full-scale facilities. A key element of Dr. Schöffel’s speech was Gassnova’s role as the State enterprise for CCS, and how we safeguard this responsibility to contribute to realisation of CCS. Schöffel also spoke about the diversity and the status of technology development in Norway. '

During the debate, Schöffel emphasised the need for a functioning market as the basis for achieving widespread CCS. In pursuit of this, both the industry and public authorities have their roles and responsibilities, and partnership and cooperation is important. He spoke in particular about active industrial cooperation along the entire value chain, from research and development via demonstration to full-scale.
China has an active CCS research and development community.
