About Gassnova

Gassnova SF (Gassnova) was established to manage governmental
interests related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), and is in charge
of the construction and operation of the facilities and infrastructure for
the planned CCS solutions at Kårstø and Mongstad. This is pioneering
work, which will arouse international interest and which has the potential
for considerable global importance.
State Enterprise
Gassnova shall provide advice to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy
in matters relating to Carbon Capture and Storage. In addition, Gassnova is to
contribute to the implementation of the technology development programme
”CLIMIT” in cooperation with the Research Council of Norway. One of the aims of
Gassnova’s work is to develop ways to reduce the costs linked to Carbon Capture
and Storage.
Gassnova’s role as a state enterprise for CCS activities includes participation in the
following projects:
- CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM)
- Large-scale transport and storage of CO2 from Mongstad
- Full-scale CO2 capture at Mongstad
Gassnova’s work lies in the intersection of the climate change debate, ambitious
political goals, CCS research and industrial innovation. It is important to establish
successful forms of cooperation between industry and research in order to enable
effi cient CCS technology.
